Backcountry Campers is run by Donald Morris who has a lifetime of outdoor experience in Scotland. A passion for the outdoors and landscape keeps us motivated and engaged and we know what works here.

Donald has worked with young people and Gaelic language projects for 20 years but felt it was time for a change. New year and new you and all that. But basically it’s good fun building things and seeing people use them. This is a satisfying job!

We started in 2019 and take a lot of influence from the various “squaredrop campers” in the USA. We are a small outfit where you can speak to the people who actually build the campers.

The huge popularity of campervans, motorhomes and caravans in Scotland is clear but we think there is room for something else – a combination of the caravan and campervan ideas – a small trailer, built to withstand many years of hard use and simple enough to hitch up and head of quickly. It needs to be easy to tow and use but also be practical.
